The Infinite Sadness is a celebration of the music, aesthetics, and history of alternative icons Smashing Pumpkins.
While The Infinite Sadness officially debuted in 2023, the roots of the group date back years earlier to a previous incarnation featuring veteran Chicago musicians Pea Munny (vocals, guitar) and Kari Ann O’Leary (drums).
That lineup had success in the local bar scene, but when they parted ways with the two other musicians, the duo sought to take the project to a new level. They enlisted bassist Jake Hostert and lead guitarist/keyboardist Ian Palmer, and collectively the group set about constructing the ultimate tribute experience. The quartet had immediate chemistry, and as an added bonus happened to echo the original Pumpkins’ mixed-gender, multi-ethnic lineup.
From their first public performances, The Infinite Sadness delivered raved-about sets in some of the Chicago scene’s marquee venues such as Durty Nellie’s and Brauerhouse, and within months expanded into a regional act with multiple gigs out of state. While the group often shares bills with other ’90s tributes, the durable popularity and cultural relevance of Smashing Pumpkins have enabled The Infinite Sadness to fit in a variety of formats.
The Infinite Sadness is focused on continuing to expand both their repertoire and geographic reach, bringing the angst and timeless melodies of Smashing Pumpkins to audiences of every age.
